Mitsubishi Motors North America and Mitsubishi Electric & Electronic, USA debuted their new state of the art solar-powered charging station on Thursday, July 7, during the company’s National Media Event held at the Mitsubishi headquarters at 6400 Katella Avenue in Cypress.
Cypress is the “Beta Site” for the entire Orange County area having the first solar powered charging station for Mitsubishi’s 100% electric vehicle – the Mitsubishi i.
Partners in this effort included Eaton Corporation, Rogers Electric, and California Green Designs.
“Last year I had the opportunity to test drive the Mitsubishi i and I was extremely impressed with its power, handling, and spaciousness. Based on my test drive I suggested that the City consider adding the i to its fleet of City vehicles”, said Council
Member Douglas Bailey.
“The City of Cypress is fortunate to have companies like Mitsubishi Motors North America and Mitsubishi Electric and Electronics as integral members of our local business community. Once again Cypress-based companies are setting the pace for others to follow,” continued Councilmember Bailey.
Recently the Cypress Public Works Superintendent test drove the pure electric vehicle for several weeks and evaluated the efficiency, versatility, and practicality of the vehicle. The City of Cypress plans to add between two to three i’s to its fleet, and also two to three charging stations.
