Orange County Sheriff's Department

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD) recently held a community awareness seminar for Rossmoor residents regarding residential and vehicular burglaries in that community.

While the crime rate within the community of Rossmoor remains quite low, residents are working cooperatively with the OCSD to maintain that low level and the quality of life that they expect.

Rossmoor residents — and those living elsewhere in Orange County — are urged to be observant, know their neighbors and their habits and immediately report suspicious persons, vehicles or activity to local law enforcement.

Sheriff’s Investigator Purser emphasized that the single most effective action to take was simply locking doors on your house or your vehicle.

The information below was taken from a flier passed out at that seminar.

Use this as a guide as you check your home for safety measures. Boxes marked “no” indicate areas where you could take action to improve your home’s security. These are just some of the steps you can take to decrease the likelihood that you or your home is targeted.

security when away from home

  Yes No
At least two light timers have been set to turn the lights on and off in a logical sequence, when we are away from home for an extended time period.
The motion detecor or other alarm system (if we have one) has been activated when we leave home.
Mail and newspaper deliveries have been stopped or arrangements for a neighbor/friend to pick them up have been made when we go away from home for a period of time.
A neighbor has been asked to tend the yard and watch our home when we are away.
