Young people will get an opportunity to fly at Wings, Wheels, Rotors and Expo on Sunday, October 23, at Los Alamitos Army Airfield on Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base (JFTB).
Flights are sponsored by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA). Two local chapters will provide pilots and airplanes to take kids on flights during the event.
The EAA Young Eagles were launched in 1992 to give interested young people, ages 8-17, an opportunity to go flying in a general aviation airplane such as a Cessna, Piper or Grumman.
All participants must have parental approval and everyone will need a signed authorization to fly.
These flights are offered free of charge and are made possible through the generosity of EAA member volunteers.
The gates of the JFTB open at 9 a.m. Flights will continue until 4 p.m.
Flights will last around 15-20 minutes. Youngsters will be briefed by the pilots, who will show them around the aircraft, help buckle seat belts, describe the airplane and proper flight procedure.
Make sure to ask a lot of questions!
The pilots will be happy to tell more about flying and their particular airplane. Everyone will receive an official Young Eagles logbook which will be signed by the pilot.
This is a rare opportunity — especially for those interested in aviation or flying. A Young Eagles flight is great introduction to the exciting world of aviation while at the same time attending a great outdoor event.
This may be your first flight on your journey in aviation.
See you on the flightline at Los Alamitos Army Airfield on October 23!
