Gary DeLong’s campaign sent out an expected email crowing about raising $250,000 in campaign contributions in seven weeks.
But perhaps more importantly, DeLong has gathered in a couple of high-profile endorsements: from both Ed Royce (R-CA40) and Dan Lungren (R-CA3).
Those endorsements are a wrinkle for the campaign by current Los Alamitos Mayor Pro Tem Troy Edgar, who has filed papers to run for the same seat but has not yet made a formal announcement.
Will the endorsement of DeLong by two prominent California Republicans unravel Edgar’s campaign strategy, in whole or in part?
We can only guess until that formal announcement is released.
Update: Politics 1 lists candidates for California Congressional District 47:
-
Alan Lowenthal (D)
state senator, former state assemblyman, former Long Beach city councilman, retired college professor -
Gary DeLong (R)
current Long Beach city councilman and telecommunications executive -
Troy Edgar (R)
current Los Alamitos mayor pro tem, businessman and Navy veteran -
Steve Kuykendall (R)
former Congressman, former state assemblyman, former Rancho Palos Verdes city councilman and Vietnam War veteran
Around the Capitol does not (yet) list Edgar, but includes incumbent Laura Richardson (D).
Politics 1 has Laura Richardson challenging incumbent Janice Hahn (D) in the 44th District. The analysis provided by Around the Capitol speculates that Richardson may do just that.
