Tenth Annual Wings, Wheels, Rotors & Expo slated for Oct. 23

Sit in a helicopter, talk to pilots. Meet the Buffalo Soldiers and the Tuskegee Airman. Fly in ‘Executive Sweet,’ a WW2 B-25 and let your kids fly with the Young Eagles. See hundreds of cars and military aircraft.

Purchase a flight in a helicopter and visit with emergency responders.

Enjoy a beautiful day on the flightline in Los Alamitos for Wings, Wheels, Rotors & Expo (WWRE) 2011 on Sunday October 23.

WWRE 2011 is an annual open house and family event sponsored by the Los Alamitos Area Chamber of Commerce and the California National Guards Joint Forces Training Base (JFTB) All the activities will take place on the flightline on Los Alamitos Army Airfield (KSLI).The 2011 event sponsor is Mitsubishi Motors.

Los Alamitos Army Airfield is the last remaining military airfield in the greater LA/Orange County areas with the longest runways in the OC. The JFTB is also the disaster support area for Southern California.

On display will be military aircraft, helicopters, many cars, warbirds along with public safety, first responder and military equipment. Aircraft flyovers are planned plus aircraft static displays and radio controlled airplanes.

This year, the California Army National Guard will incorporate their Best Warrior Competition into WWRE and announce the Soldier of the Year in the morning.

Wings Wheels & Rotors will have various civilian and public safety helicopters with fire, police and military rotorcraft including some of the media aircraft seen daily on the air around Southern California. Helicopter awareness will be supported by the Professional Helicopter Pilot Association (PHPA). Alongside the airplanes and warbirds are helicopter flights in civilian “choppers” for a small fee.

general aviation airplanes by The Experimental Aircraft Association Young Eagles will provide free flights for youth between the ages of 8 and 17 years who are interested in flying and aviation.

The largest event will be a huge car show including custom cars, new autos, motorcycles,roadsters, antique vehicles and hot rods. Awards to be presented for best cars.

There will be many events for the family at WWRE 2011, anchored by a child-oriented Kids Korner.

Additionally,there will be food 9 (including breakfast), music, vendors, displays, demonstrations, flybys.

A portion of the proceeds will go to the JFTB Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR) funds to support the armed forces personnel on the base.

Free admission, free parking. Donations accepted. No smoking, dogs, bikes or alcohol permitted.
