Southland Credit Union, headquartered across from Ganahl Lumber on Los Alamitos Blvd. in Los Alamitos, opened a spanking new office at the corner of Acacia Parkway and South Euclid Street, next door to Garden Grove City Hall and across Euclid Street from Cal State Fullerton’s Garden Grove Center.
The grand opening party on Saturday featured lots of VIPs, a bounce house, face painting, a deejay and plenty of people checking out the credit union’s services. (Free checking accounts!)
A Carl’s Jr. food truck served up burgers and fries for everyone.
A particular crowd favorite was the money booth: anyone opening a new account had fifteen seconds to grab as many flying one- and five-dollar bills as they could. Also in the mix with George and Abe were a few Andy Jacksons and one Benjamin. One couple took home a total of $36 — the wife caught $14 and her husband captured $22.
A highlight of the interior decor is a mural made from historic photos of the area surrounding the building.
The high-profile location formerly housed a branch of Fullerton Community Bank, a subsidiary of RMG Capital Corporation. Opus Bank, based in Irvine, completed purchase of RMG Capital Corporation earlier this month.
The gang’s all out front getting their photo taken, including Garden Grove Mayor William Dalton and Miss Garden Grove.
