Rossmoor homeowners, we need to take action!
Potention effect on
- property values
- traffic
- quality of life
Are you aware that…
…there are six entries to The Shops of Rossmoor from St. Cloud and Montecito?
…the only double-turn lane from Seal Beach Blvd. to The Shops is at St. Cloud from Seal Beach Blvd.?
…there are major new stores going into The Shops: Toys R Us; Babies R Us (where the old Albertsons was located. 47,000 square foot building); Rite Aid with drive thru that empties onto St. Cloud; In & Out Burger; two new tenants at the former Stats location (one may be Staples).
…there are 1.5 acres dedicated to low-income housing for the City of Seal Beach in The Shops. The 37 units provide Seal Beach the necessary low-income housing required by the state. Seal Beach has not upgraded their required low-income housing since 1990. They had seventeen possible locations for this housing. Why in our backyard?
…there has not been a traffic study of the area since 2003.
…there has never been a traffic study done on St. Cloud.
If you are concerned about the future of your community, come to the Rossmoor Community Services District meeting (RCSD) and voice your concerns:
RCSD meeting
Rush Park
Tuesday, Dec. 13, starting at 7 p.m.
UPDATE:
RPMT provides the text of an email exchange:
Hello
My name is Bill Kahlert and I’m on the RCSD Board of Directors.
Thank you for conveying the information below to your constituents. It’s vital that the residents of Rossmoor are aware of what the City of Seal Beach intends to do to our community. The actions below clearly indicate how little the elected officials of Seal Beach care about how their decisions impact our lives.
While the RCSD does represent and have jurisdiction over a few items (Park usage, Park maintenance, Tree’s, etc) that impact the residents of Rossmoor, the concerns you describe below are 100% the responsibility of the City of Seal Beach and their elected officials. At a prior RCSD meeting I mentioned the exact issues you conveyed during the Directors comment section at the end of our monthly session along with Director Maynard. As residents of Rossmoor we are both personally alarmed by these rogue, highly disruptive, and down right un-neighborly actions.
I can’t speak for the other Directors, nor am I the official voice of the District, but I was never consulted by anyone from the City of Seal Beach regarding these proposed activities. Unfortunately the City of Seal Beach is free to make any decision they wish regardless of the opinions of the RCSD.
Please don’t interpret this email as meaning we don’t want and enjoy hearing from the residents of Rossmoor during our mtgs because the more participation and feedback from the community we receive the better. I just want you to realize that we are severely limited in what as a board we can do, and that if I had to choose one meeting to attend (Seal Beach vs. RCSD), I’d attend and direct all of my energies towards the Seal Beach City Council and making them aware of how you feel. Perhaps direct feedback from people their actions directly impact may change some minds…
Thanks and have a great day!
Bill
Dear Bill,
We only posted this at the request of one of the members of Eric’s committee. We are not involved in this group’s activities. Although your opinion and thoughts are valid, perhaps they would be better served by directing them to Eric Christensen. We do applaud the efforts of this committee in attempting to stop Seal Beach.

Yes, a study of the traffic patterns in and around the shopping cneters on both sides of Seal Beach Boulevard is sorely needed.
1. Traffic flow turning from Seal Beach Boulevard onto St. Cloud is becoming more and more challenging because of traffic waiting in the westbound left lane to make turns onto Yellowtail and other streets exiting St. Cloud towards Martha Ann.
2. People sometimes drive straight across Seal Beach between St. Cloud and the drive south of CVS despite the traffic signs that indicate left and right turns only. Why not put in traffic signals with arrows indicating that and WHEN one can drive straiight ahead from the center lanes of St. Cloud and the opposing driveway, and when they can turn left or right?
3. Every decision made about shopping centers on both sides of Seal Beach Boulevard from the freeway on up to Katella seems to thumb its nose at the taxpaying residents of Rossmoor. I personally look forward to the convenience of having new businesses such as Staples and In and Out nearer to us, but the planners of these shopping centers need to be more considerate of the 3,000 plus household who are likely to be frequent patrons of the businesses therein. It can be difficult to get in and out of these shopping centers for Rossmoor residents. For example, upon leaving CVS or Ralphs we have to drive out of our way northward inside that shopping center to exit and make our way south again to St. Cloud because we cannot legally cross Seal Beach at the nearest exit.
I’m sorry I can’t attend the meeting December 12 due to prior commitments.
Henrietta

As a Rossmoor homeowner and resident I am not happy about this possibility. I plan to be at the next Seal Beach City Council meeting to express my opposition to this plan.
