It was standing room only at the Regular Board Meeting of the Rossmoor Community Services District (RCSD) on December 13, 2011. Item H-2, on the agenda was a citizen’s request to discuss various planned developments at The Shops at Rossmoor in Seal Beach. The woman leading the charge was long time Rossmoor resident Brenda Gorman. Ms. Gorman requested that the matter be discussed by the Board as a means of informing the public about developments underway at The Shops at Rossmoor shopping center in Seal Beach and their impacts on the quality of life for Rossmoor residents. Concurring Rossmoor residents gathered in droves behind her to voice their opinions and concerns about the increased traffic congestion on Seal Beach Blvd. and St. Cloud, declining property values and the overall negative impact of the proposed new construction rumored to be low-income housing, a Toys R Us, Babies R Us, In-N-Out Burger, Staples and Rite-Aid.
The RCSD Board informed the public that the Shops at Rossmoor, while heavily patronized by Rossmoor residents, was in fact, part of Seal Beach and therefore outside the jurisdiction of the District. Seal Beach Mayor Pro Tem Gary Miller was among the attendees. He encouraged the public to attend the upcoming Seal Beach City Council and Planning Commission meetings in January and February of 2012. In response to the significant public interest in The Shops at Rossmoor development issue, the Board formed The Shops at Rossmoor Ad Hoc Committee. The first meeting of the committee will be televised by Time Warner and held in the Rush Park Auditorium one hour prior to the regularly scheduled January 10, 2012 meeting of the Board.
