The following information was released by the campaign of Gary DeLong for Congress.

The Gary DeLong for Congress campaign is proud to announce the endorsement of Orange County Sheriff Sandra Hutchens, joining previous endorsements by former Governor George Deukmejian, US Congressman Dan Lungren, US Congressman Ed Royce, State Board of Equalization Vice-Chair Michelle Steel, Los Angeles Country Supervisor Don Knabe and the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce.

“Gary DeLong and I share the same goal of working to improve public safety in our community,” said Sheriff Hutchens. “He has demonstrated a strong and unyielding commitment to public safety and law enforcement concerns along with a devotion to the welfare of law enforcement professionals. Gary is a proven leader and we need his voice in Congress to keep our neighborhoods safe and healthy by supporting thriving businesses and good jobs.”

DeLong is currently a member of the Long Beach City Council, Chair of the City’s Budget Oversight Committee and Federal Legislation Committee, as well as Chairman of the Alameda Corridor Transit Authority and the Los Cerritos Wetlands Authority. Gary also serves on the Board of Trustees for the Aquarium of the Pacific and the Board of Governors for the Long Beach City College Foundation.

“It is an honor to have the endorsement of the leading law enforcement professional in Orange County,” DeLong said. “Sheriff Hutchens has an outstanding reputation, both up and down the State of California as well as nationally. I am pleased she recognizes my commitment to law enforcement professionals, safe neighborhoods and the understanding that public safety should be a top priority of elected officials at all levels of government.”

Gary DeLong is a third generation Southern Californian who has lived in the Long Beach area for over 25 years. He is currently president of The RTP Group, a Southern California based telecommunications company. DeLong resides in Long Beach with his wife Dawna and daughters Danielle, Elizabeth and Katie.

I find it interesting that Delong gets the OC Sheriff’s endorsement yet crime is up 11% in Long Beach and through his actions, the Long Beach police force has been cut by 20%.

Just this week, we had a home invasion robbery in one of our most exclusive areas (the home owner was shot at), and we just had another murder last night.

Now the city council is talking about funding more police officers.

This endorsement is driven by the political machine that only cares about putting “their guy” in office.

As anyone in Long Beach and they will tell that crime is up, the council is a joke, and Delong is part of the problem not the solution.
