While talking* recently with readers, we were asked about the “reach” of Orange County Breeze. Who is reading our online newspaper? Where are our readers located?
The featured photo for this article is one answer to those questions, made possible through Google Analytics.
Keep in mind a few things.
This map is zoomed in to the State of California. The stats attached to the map tell us that 75% of our readers are in California. If you zoom the map out to cover the entire world, you see that we have no readers in Greenland, Mongolia or Chile. On the other hand, we do have readers in Finland, China and Argentina.
The location information is not guaranteed to be accurate. Not everyone has GPS and not everyone allows Google to use GPS. Some of this location information is reader-supplied, and some is by guess and by golly.
Within the United States, California shelters the highest number of Orange County Breeze readers. No surprise there. The next three states in descending number of readers? Texas, New York and Washington.
We even have readers in Washington, D.C.
Material to our editorial efforts and of interest to our local advertisers, the closer a reader is to the heart of OCB Country, the more time a reader spends on the site. The number of pages viewed goes up the same way. Wrapping the data in a big red bow, the percentage of return readers rises.
That gives us a warm fuzzy feeling because it means that our target readership does in fact find our articles interesting.
Thank you to all our readers and advertisers for supporting Orange County Breeze!
