On Tuesday, Feb. 14, the 140th Chemical Company of the California National Guard held a deployment ceremony at the Veterans Service Center just inside the front gate of Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base.
The company left for Shelby, Mississippi, on Thursday, Jan. 16, for several weeks of further training before deploying overseas to Kuwait.
Over two hundred family members and friends assembled to witness promotions, acknowledge the company’s history and eat hamburgers, hot dogs and cake provided by American Legion Post 327, based in Seal Beach.
Two Los Alamitos leaders were recognized from the podium as VIPs: John Osborn, Chairman of the Board of the Los Alamitos Area Chamber of Commerce; and Dean Grose, Chairman of the Regional Military Affairs Committee.
After the ceremony concluded, Mr. Osborn sought out the company commander, Major Orlando Cobos, to wish the company well. Shaking the Major’s hand, Mr. Osborn said, “God speed, Major. Bring them all home.”

Thanks for bringing awareness to the deployment!
It is our pleasure. One of the editorial goals of Orange County Breeze is to inform our readers about events, activities and units at Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base. Writing about the deployment of the 140th Chemical Company is an important part of that, and a worthy story all by itself.
