The Rossmoor/Los Alamitos Republican Women Federated are celebrating 50 years of service to the community this Saturday, March 24th at the Old Ranch Country Club.

The keynote speakers at the luncheon are two of our greatest presidents, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln!

Historians know that Lincoln was a Republican but George Washington was an Independent. So why will he be a speaker at this Republican celebration?

Well, there was no Republican Party in his day but we are certain that if the GOP was around he would have been a proud member of the Republican Party!

“This is a great celebration for us,” commented President Wendy Grose. “For 50 years our Republican Women have promoted the right and responsibility for each citizen to vote and we have set up voter registration tables year round to accomplish this. Each year we send a high school senior to ‘Advocacy,’ which is a great educational program our Republican Federated Women hold in Sacramento. This year’s ‘Advocacy’ recipient is Justine Cochin a senior at Los Alamitos High School.”

During its fifty years, the Rossmoor/Los Alamitos RWF has provided scholarships each year to one or more graduating seniors from one of our local high schools. Each applicant must write a short essay on “What the Constitution Means to me.” College-bound seniors can contact their school counselor for more information to apply.

“Since this is an election year, we are bringing local candidates to our monthly meetings to allow us the opportunity to meet and discuss their ideas for our state, county and cities,” added Grose. “We will all be following the Federal election but we must not forget the importance of our state and local elections. California is in a mess and we must really understand the propositions and know who we are electing. Our meetings up to the election will be very informative!”
