Lon Wahlberg, publisher of the News Enterprise, a community newspaper based in Los Alamitos, has written in that paper about his quest to run the Boston Marathon.

Today’s running of the Boston Marathon resulted in Kenyan Wesley Korir winning the men’s division with a time of 2:12:40.

Another Kenyan, Sharon Cherop, won the women’s division with a time of 2:31:50.

The weather was sunny and hot, hardly the ideal conditions that greeted runners in February for our own Race on the Base. Mr. Wahlberg ran the 10k in February ahead of the big Boston race.

The official results posted by the Boston Athletic Association (BAA) show that Mr. Wahlberg not only ran, he completed this difficult marathon under far from ideal conditions.

According to the BAA, he placed 15,873rd overall and was 9727th in the men’s division and 1882nd in his age group.

He finished the half at 2:12:52 and crossed the net at 4:42:56.

Congratulations!

The next local race is Run Seal Beach this coming Saturday. As of today, there are fewer than 200 spaces left for late registrants and less than 3 days before registration closes.
