Five Cypress College faculty have successfully completed the tenure process. They will be honored at a recognition event at the North Orange County Community College District (NOCCCD) Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday [April 24, 2012]. An on-campus reception will be held in October.
Faculty who will be recognized are: Nancy Corrales and Elizabeth-Ann Pacheco, Health Science; Sarah Jaffray, Fine Arts; Parwinder Sidhu, Social Science; and Carlos Urquidi, Career Technical Education.
Corrales is a faculty member in Cypress College’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program and also serves as the program’s clinical coordinator. She first taught at Cypress College six years ago as a member of the adjunct faculty. In addition to her duties at Cypress College, she still works part-time at the City of Hope. An alumna of Cypress College, Corrales completed the program she now teaches in 2004. She earned her Bachelor’s of Science from the University Autonoma de Baja California. She holds a credential from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, Certification as Radiologic Technologist, and Certification with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
Jaffray joined the Art Department faculty in August 2008 after having served as a member of the adjunct faculty at our sister campus, Fullerton College. She also has taught at Laguna College of Art and Design, and Citrus College — where she began their online Art History program. Jaffray is currently the gallery director of the Cypress College Art Gallery. Jaffray earned her Master’s of Arts and Bachelor’s of Arts degrees in Art History from California State University, Long Beach.
“I love teaching Art History and it has been an honor to make the Art History Program grow,” she said. “The number of Art History majors has increased from less than one percent of my students when I started to now over 10 percent of my students. I love being a part of the Art Department.”
Pacheco is the program director for Dental Assisting. She also oversees, develops, implements, and evaluates the extra-mural clinical aspect of the Dental Assistant Program. Some of her formal education includes: a Master’s degree in Education-Career and Technical Education and a Bachelor’s of Vocational Education degree from California State University, San Bernardino. Her current professional activities include: membership in the Orange County Dental Assistant Society, California and American Dental Assistant Associations, and California Association of Dental Assistant Teachers. Her previous positions include: registered dental assistant; back office manager and OSHA coordinator.
Sidhu started her teaching career in 1996, first as an adjunct faculty member at Cypress College, and in 2008 she became a full-time professor of Economics. As the department coordinator for Economics she has taught both courses of Economics — Macro and Micro. She also has taught Macroeconomics for the Honors Program. Sidhu moved to the United States from India in 1993. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in English Honors, Master’s degree in Honors in Industrial Economics, and her Ph.D. in India. She serves as faculty advisor for the Business and Economics Club, and is a member of the college’s Diversity Committee.
Urquidi’s educational background includes a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering
from Cal State University, Los Angeles. Additionally, he is currently enrolled at California State University, Fullerton, finishing his Master’s degree in Instructional Design and Technology in Spring 2012. He started his professional career as a Design Engineer for various engineering firms. During his employment as an engineer, Urquidi enjoyed training entry-level engineers and felt a strong desire to train people. This desire led him to pursue an educational career and eventually to a position at Cypress College, first as an adjunct faculty member in Spring 2008. Urquidi is the Academic senate rep for the Career Technical Education Division and the faculty advisor for the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers student branch, which he founded at Cypress College in Fall 2009.
