The following information was released by Los Alto United Methodist Church.
The youth at Los Altos United Methodist Church will hold their first annual Chili Cook-off beginning at noon on May 6 at the church at 5950 East Willow Street, Long Beach.
For an entrance fee of $20, everyone in the community is invited to enter a special chili in the competition. The judges will present a special prize for the winning chili.
Attendees will also have an opportunity to purchase lunch, enjoy square dancing, bid on silent auction items and participate in a 50/50 raffle.
All proceeds from the cook-off, auction, and raffle will be used to defray travel expenses for two Sierra Service Projects the youth will paticipate in this summer.
High-school-age youth will spend a week repairing homes and other community improvements on the Native American Rancheria in Susanville, California.
Middle-school-age youth will work with the Paiute-Shoshone tribes near Fort McDermitt, Nevada.
