The following information was released by Note-ables Booster Club.

The award-winning choirs of Los Alamitos High School announce auditions for the 2012-2013 school year. Auditions are open to all current students of Los Alamitos High School (LAHS), as well as incoming freshmen.

Vocal Auditions for Sound FX (advanced co-ed), Soundtrax (advanced women) and Xpressions (concert choir co-ed) will be held on June 4th and 5th. Students should sign up for a time slot and pick-up information packet, outlining audition requirements and expectations, beginning Wednesday, May 16th in the choir room.  Audition information packet will also be posted by May 16th on choir website: www.lahschoir.org

Auditions are open to all current 9th, 10th and 11th grade high school students.  Vocal auditions time slots for students not currently in choir program are available on June 4th and 5th during after-school hours and take place at LAHS in the choir room (Room 518).

Any current 8th grade student at Oak and McAuliffe Middle Schools who is interested in auditioning for one of these advanced choirs should sign up for a vocal audition time with their choir director for auditions that will be held at Oak and McAuliffe the week of May 28th.  Current 8th grade students may also audition at LAHS the afternoon of June 4th and 5th, but must sign up in the high school choir room for those time slots.

All students who audition for Sound FX and Soundtrax must also attend the group dance auditions June 6th beginning at 3:00 pm at LAHS. No dance audition is required for Xpressions. Details about dance auditions are included in Audition Information Packet.

Students interested in singing with Xtreme (all men) or Axcent (intermediate/beginner women) DO NOT need to audition, but should speak with their LAHS counselors immediately to be registered for these classes in the Fall.
All five choirs will be holding their final performances of the year on May 31st, June 1st and June 2nd. 7:00 pm each evening and on Saturday, June 2nd there is also a matinee at 2:00 pm. General admission seats ($10) are available for all four performances. Limited reserved seats ($15) are available. Ticket requests can be sent to choirtix@gmail.com.

Background of vocal music program

The vocal music program at Los Alamitos High School includes students from Los Alamitos, Seal Beach, and the surrounding cities.  In addition to competing in competitions throughout southern California and the United States, the vocal music program puts on four shows each school year.  These shows are generally sold out and draw their attendance from throughout the surrounding area, including a number of patrons from Leisure World in Seal Beach.
Note-ables Booster Club is the non-profit organization that supports the entire vocal music department at Los Alamitos High School.  We have over 350 participants involved in the vocal music program, which is comprised of 5 different choirs.

Being part of this program teaches students the importance of teamwork, the value of hard work, the ethic of good sportsmanship, and develops self-confidence.  Studies show that students who participate in programs such as this get better grades, have higher graduation rates, and get into less trouble than the student population as a whole.  Without the fundraising and volunteer efforts of the Note-ables Booster Club the program could not offer as many opportunities to as many students as it does today.
