Wheelchair-bound 86-year-old dies after being struck by car in Leisure World

Seal Beach Police Department SUV

The following information was released by the Seal Beach Police Department.

On Sunday May 20, 2012, at 5:39 p.m., officers of the Seal Beach Police Department responded to the area of Saint Andrews and Tam O’Shanter located in the private community of Leisure World, regarding a traffic collision involving a motor vehicle and a motorized wheel chair.

The 86-year-old male rider of the motorized wheel chair sustained injuries and was transported to Long Beach Memorial Hospital for medical treatment. On Monday, May 28, 2012, the victim died while hospitalized. The cause of his death is unknown at this time.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the motorized wheel chair was identified as Dale Snyder Quinn (female), 75 years of age, and a resident of Seal Beach. She was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence in violation of 23153(a) CVC and 23153(b) CVC and booked at the Seal Beach Police Department. Quinn was later released due to an immediate medical condition.

Both the Orange County District Attorney’s Office and the Seal Beach Police Department are conducting the investigation. The Seal Beach Police Department is requesting that anyone who witnessed the collision contact Officer Joe Garcia at 562-799-4100 extension 1649 or Officer Chris Hendrix extension 1643 and leave a voice mail with contact information.
