Orange County Breeze has been told that at this morning’s Mass of Ordination for new priests, Bishop Tod Brown announced the Diocese’s new cathedral (the former Crystal Cathedral) will be named Christ Cathedral.

The Diocese of Orange outbid Chapman University to purchase the landmark property with plans to renovate it for use as the new cathedral for the Diocese. A cathedral is a bishop’s “home church” and shelters the bishop’s chair, representing his leadership of the jurisdiction or see (from Latin sedes for chair).
