Orange County Community Newspapers (OCCN), the parent company of the News Enterprise, pulled staff from two offices outside Los Alamitos for a boffo showing at a ribbon cutting last week sponsored by the Los Alamitos Chamber of Commerce.
When asked why the News Enterprise was getting a ribbon cutting — usually reserved for new businesses or new Chamber members — newly named OCCN Chief Digital Officer Lon Wahlberg stated that the new online edition of the News Enterprise earned its own recognition.
In addition to Chamber representatives such as Chairman John Osborn of Alamitos Eye Care, OCCN staff members included Mr. Wahlberg; News Enterprise editor Ted Apodaca; Brady Rhoades, formerly of Newport Beach Daily Pilot and now working at the OCCN office in Cypress; Vince Bodiford, recently promoted to oversee OCCN’s local newspaper group, including Event News in Cypress, the Sun in Seal Beach and the News Enterprise; Leslie Belfor, who worked until recently out of the OCCN’s Cypress office and has since moved to the Seal Beach office; a website developer; a cartoonist; an ad salesman from the Cypress office; the Cypress office receptionist; and the Cypress office bookkeeper.
Mr. Wahlberg also noted that the News Enterprise offices were recently upgraded with up-to-date communications technology, and that he will oversee the digital versions of all of OCCN’s newspapers from the Los Alamitos office.
