U.S. Olympic Diving Team selection will take place June 17 to 24 in Federal Way, Washington.
The week-long competition is being held to select divers to represent the United States at this summer’s 2012 Olympics in London.
Among the competitors are the two daughters of long-time Seal Beach residents Mark and Carol Ishimatsu.
Victoria “Tory” (23) will try to earn a spot on the U.S. team in the Women’s 3-meter springboard event while younger daughter Haley (19) will try to earn a spot on the Women’s 10-meter platform event.
For both events only two divers will be selected to the U.S. team. Both girls are currently training full-time at the University of Southern California (USC) with USC Head Diving Coach Hongping Li.
Both daughters have decorated diving resumes.
Tory is a recent graduate of USC where she was one of the best divers to come out of USC and the Pac-12 Conference. She has earned multiple NCAA All American honors, an individual NCAA championship, and a 4-time Pac-12 Champion. She has competed for the U.S. in a number of international events since 2004 and was a finalist in the 2008 Olympic Diving Team selection.
Haley will transfer from Duke University to USC in the Fall as a sophomore. Haley was a 2008 U.S. Olympic Diving Team member in the women’s individual and synchronized 10-meter platform events. At age 15, she was the second youngest athlete of all the U.S. Olympic athletes (all sports). Haley’s partner in the women’s 10-meter synchronized event was the youngest by three months. At the 2008 Olympics Haley placed 14th in the individual 10-meter event and 5th in the synchronized event. She has competed for the U.S. National team in over 15 countries since 2006 and has won numerous medals. At the 2009 (Rome, Italy) World Championships she earned a silver medal with her partner in the women’s 10-meter synchronized event. Haley is currently the top U.S. Women’s 10-meter platform diver.
The U.S. Olympic Diving Team Trials will be broadcast by NBC, NBC Sports Universal.
