At the June 12 regular meeting of the Los Alamitos Unified School District Board of Education, District Superintendent Dr. Sherry Kropp introduced Joshua Arnold, who will become the new principal of Los Alamitos High School (LAHS) after the departure of Dr. Grant Litfin, who is going to Tustin Unified School District to serve as Director of Secondary Education.

According to Dr. Kropp, Arnold played football in high school and still plays ice hockey. He attended the University of California at Los Angeles as an undergraduate and went on to earn a master’s degree from Harvard University. He served at a charter school in Los Angeles, and came to Los Alamitos from a position as an assistant principal in Fountain Valley School District Fountain Valley High School in the Huntington Beach Union High School District.

During brief remarks, Arnold said, “There’s a lot of work [to be done at Los Al High] and I’m excited to do it.”

Author’s note: it was brought to my attention that Mr. Arnold’s quote could be mis-read to cast Los Alamitos High School and the District in a poor light. Let me hurry to wave away any such idea. Mr. Arnold’s remark came in the middle of a description of his eagerness and excitement at the opportunity represented by leading an excellent high school in an excellent school district. Because there are many wonderful programs and people at the school and district, “there’s a lot of work to be done.” His remark should not be understood to mean that he holds the school or district in anything but the highest regard. I regret that my short quotation may have been misunderstood in any other way.
