Oxford Academy, Cypress CA

The following information was released by the Woman’s Club of Cypress.

This year the Woman’s Club of Cypress awarded scholarships to two outstanding Oxford Academy students. Phoebe Kim was awarded a $1000 scholarship for performing arts and Alexandria Moctezuma received a $750 scholarship for scholastic achievements. The presentations were made by Judy Wagner, Woman’s Club President, on Monday, June 4, at the Oxford Academy Awards Ceremony.

Phoebe Kim began playing violin and piano at the age of six and has been involved in various ensembles and competitions. She was designated as the Concertmaster of the Oxford Academy Symphony Orchestra since her sophomore year. She also served as the Concertmaster of the Orange County Youth Symphony Orchestra for the past two seasons. In 2011, she won the Concerto Competition and performed a solo with the orchestra. Most recently, she was chosen as one of the Young Artists for the Music Teachers’ Association of California Young Artists Guild. She has been awarded scholarships from the Antelope Valley Symphony Orchestra and Master Chorale Bach competition, and from the Friends of Cypress Cultural Arts (FOCCA). Last summer, she studied with Mr. William Fitzpatrick from Chapman University at the music festival “The Viola Workout” in Crested Butte, Colorado. This summer, she plans to attend California Summer Music at Sonoma State University.

Apart from her dedication to classical music, Phoebe is a volunteer at the Cypress Library and at the Cypress Senior Center. She enjoys playing piano at her church, and tutoring children in various subjects. After graduation from Oxford Academy, she will pursue violin performance at Northwestern University in the Fall.

Alexandria Moctezuma plans to continue her education at Cypress College. She will be majoring in health/nutrition with a minor in business. Her goal is to become a dietician and to own her own health and wellness center one day. She enjoys working out and staying fit and would like to help others to live a healthy lifestyle. Alexandria is also a dynamic soccer player and hopes to play on the school’s soccer team. She intends to later transfer to a four-year college.
