The following information was released by the Rossmoor Community Services District.

The Seal Beach City Council Chambers had a full house this past Monday evening as Run Seal Beach grants were awarded to local community groups.

The Rossmoor Community Services District Recreation Department and the Los Alamitos Youth Center Inc. were the grateful recipients of a $1,500 grant awarded to the Rossmoor Park Summer Day Camp. Director Michael Maynard, with the Rossmoor Community Services District, was present to collect the grant on behalf of the Rossmoor Park Summer Day Camp, which is co-sponsored by the District.

“This is a very gracious grant. The kids are going to love what these funds will deliver,” Director Maynard said in response to the grant announcement.

Funds will be used to purchase a ping pong table and other recreational equipment and supplies promoting physical activity. The equipment will also be available for use by park patrons throughout the school year.

About Run Seal Beach

The Run Seal Beach Committee was formed in 1999. The committee is a non-profit organization whose goal is to raise funds and awareness for recreation or fitness programs that serve Los Alamitos, Rossmoor and Seal Beach.

Funds are raised primarily through the annual 5k race held in Seal Beach held every April.

This year, a record total of $156,750 was awarded to 65 organizations encompassing a wide range of needs. The committee is planned and managed solely by volunteers so that 100% of available proceeds can be given back to the community.

Director Michael Maynard added, “I am so impressed how Run Seal Beach support goes beyond Seal Beach… their reach effects so many communities, including Rossmoor.”

About RCSD and The Youth Center

The Rossmoor Community Services District and the Youth Center have partnered together for over 23 years to provide an affordable summer camp for youth ages 5-12.

Programs are funded entirely by contributions and modest activity fees, since there is no federal, state or local funding.

The camp serves over 350 youth and 50 teens per year.

Daily activities include arts and crafts, outdoor games and activities, tournaments, special events, excursions, a talent show and so much more!

Participants are looking forward to the arrival of their new equipment.

There is still room to sign up your child. For more information, please call The Youth Center at 562-493-4043 or stop by The Youth Center at 10909 Oak St. in Los Alamitos.
