The Cypress 5k/10k Run/Walk sponsored by the City of Cypress takes place prior to the opening of the Festival Grounds.
Runners arrive at the Cypress Civic Center beginning at 6 a.m. to check in or register.
The race is scheduled to start at 7:30 a.m.
This year, Nicole Werner sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” before Cypress Mayor Doug Bailey loosed the runners with a blaaat! from an air horn.
Two Cypress Police Department motor officers cleared the roadway ahead of the frontrunners.
Because timing is managed electronically with chips embedded in tags, none of the runners have to worry about an accurate race time or being slow off the start. Their time passing the starting line is automatically and electronically recorded, as is their finish time.
