Highlights of August 2012 Cypress School Board meeting

The following information was released by Cypress School District.

The Trustees of the Cypress School District are Steve Blount, David Giese, Candice Kern, Brian Nakamura, and Valeri Peters Wagner.

The Superintendent of Cypress School District is Beverly Hempstead.

PBIS and Violence Prevention Education

The Board approved the Agreement for Provision of Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support (PBIS) and Violence Prevention Education Services with the Orange County Superintendent of Schools for 2012/13. The agreement pertains to both King and Vessels Schools, which will be responsible for providing services to their students. Staff will be specially trained to perform the services required. The District will be compensated up to a maximum of $5,700.

Dates for Board meetings during the 2012-2013 school year

The Board of Trustees approved the schedule of Board meetings for the 2012/13 school year, the second Thursday of each month, at 7:00 p.m.:

September 13, October 11, November 8, and the Organizational Meeting December 13, 2012; January 17 (3rd Thursday), February 14, March 14, April 18 (3rd Thursday), May 9, and June 13, 2013. The January and April dates fall on the third Thursday to compensate for the holidays.

Coordinator, Special Education, position

The Board approved/ratified a revised description for the administrative position, Coordinator, Special Education, and the salary range for the position at $104,435-$116,738 for 225 days of service on the updated Management and Confidential Employees’ Salary Schedule. This position will allow the District to meet the ongoing demands and needs of the special education program. The opening is the result of the TOSA/Special Education taking a leave of absence, creating the need to find a replacement to cover these duties, with the authority and expertise to support and work exclusively with special education.

The Board of Trustees met with staff to begin to discuss priorities for the 2012/13 school year. Based on Board and staff input, Superintendent/Management Objectives will be developed and brought to the Board at the October Board meeting.
