Buena Park Police Department, Cheyenne Mateo Fuimaono, 3 December 2012, homicide

The following information was released by the Buena Park Police Department.

On Friday, Nov. 30, 2012 at approximately 1:25 p.m., officers were dispatched to a medical emergency at a residence in the 6800 block of San Benito Way. The nature of the radio-call was an 18-month-old baby boy not breathing.

The mother’s boyfriend, who was caring for the child, was attempting to apply CPR to the infant with instructions from BPPD’s dispatcher.

Upon arrival officers immediately took over giving CPR to the child until paramedics arrived.

The child was subsequently transported to a local hospital by paramedics, still unresponsive and not breathing. Thirty minutes after arriving at the hospital, the staff was able to revive the child and he began to respond, breathing on his own. The child was later transported to CHOC Hospital.

Buena Park Police were later contacted by Orange County Social Services at CHOC hospital regarding “suspicious bruises” on the child. When officers responded to CHOC for further investigation, they learned the child was now on life support and had been declared brain-dead.

Detectives were notified and responded to the hospital to interview witnesses.

After interviewing the mother’s boyfriend, who was the original reporting party, he admitted to inflicting the injuries which attributed to the child’s condition. He was placed under arrest for attempt homicide pending the outcome of the child’s condition, which was quickly deteriorating.

The suspect is identified as Cheyenne Mateo Fuimaono, 7-13-91, residence of Buena Park.

On Saturday, Dec. , 2012, at approximately 4:55 p.m., the Coroner’s office reported the child had succumbed to his injuries and passed away. The suspect’s charge was upgraded to homicide, and he was booked at the Buena Park Police Department pending arraignment.
