The following information was released by the office of Orange County Supervisor Todd Spitzer.

A community forum on violence in Orange County originally set for this week has been postponed to allow greater participation from speakers, victims and members of the public. A new location and time will be announced as soon as possible, Orange County Supervisor Todd Spitzer’s office said on March 4.

“This community discussion on violence is so important that I would rather do it right than do it fast,” Spitzer said. “We’ve been contacted by so many who want to participate, and we are reaching out to an incredible group of speakers. I’m amazed by the support we’ve received for holding this difficult, but necessary discussion.”

The event is being co-hosted by Supervisor Todd Spitzer, Tustin Mayor Al Murray, the Orange County Commission on Human Relations and the Orange County Health Care Agency.

Spitzer called for the forum in wake of 17 days of bloodshed in Orange County, beginning with the vengeance murders by Chris Dorner and culminating in the car-jacking spree by Ali Syed late last month.

Spitzer represents the third supervisorial district, which includes the cities of Irvine and Tustin where innocent victims of separate shootings were killed, and Villa Park where Syed took his life.

As a former police officer and Assistant District Attorney, Spitzer knows the public safety challenges facing law enforcement. Spitzer also has a long record of standing up for crime victims. While serving as an assembly member, he led the successful campaign to pass Marsy’s Law for All, the nation’s most comprehensive victims’ Bill of Rights.
