McGaugh Elementary School conducted its annual Veterans Day Flag Deck, one of the most special ceremonies of our entire school year, on Friday, November 7, 2014.
We were honored to be joined by Los Alamitos School Board Trustees Meg Cutuli and Karen Russell, who assisted students with the presentation of Certificates of Appreciation for nearly 75 Veterans and parents that currently serve in the US Armed Services.
The Color Guard of the 5th Battalion, 14th Marines stationed at the Seal Beach Naval Weapons presented the Stars and Stripes, Commander Erik Franzen of the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station led the Pledge of Allegiance, and McGaugh 4th Grader Tess Mingram performed a rousing rendition of the National Anthem.
Trustee Russell addressed our school community, and Lt. Commander Wade Nordberg spoke about the history of Veterans Day and the importance of supporting the nearly 100 military families that attend McGaugh.
The Flag Deck ended with a chant of “USA… USA… USA…” that echoed throughout the neighborhood.
