It is with great sadness that the Cypress City Council announces the passing of former Mayor William Davis. The City Council adjourned their regular meeting on Monday, February 13 in honor of former Mayor Davis.
William Davis was elected to the City Council in November 1986 and served as Mayor from 1988-1989. He resigned his position on the City Council in February 1989 due to his pending relocation from Cypress for his position as Vice President of Bell Atlantic-TriCon Leasing Corporation.
Mr. Davis began his active community involvement in Cypress in 1973 when he was appointed to serve on the Traffic Commission. He subsequently served as a member of the Recreation & Community Services Commission from February 1981 through June 1986. During his 16 year residency in Cypress, Mr. Davis was also involved as Chairman of the Cypress Community Festival Committee, a Founding Member of the Friends of Cypress Parks, Director of the Cypress Theatre Guild, Cypress Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and the Cypress Cable Television Advisory Committee.
In 1985, Mr. Davis was honored as Volunteer of the Year by the California Park Society for his active participation in community affairs. He was also selected as the Man of the Year in 1987 by Cypress Chamber of Commerce. Mayor Davis received his BA and MBA Degrees in Business Management from the California Western University.
