Mesa View 7th grader Matthew Quach is presented with a first place medal in the boys category by Bill Belknap, Oratorical Chair. It’s Matthew’s second consecutive win. The first place winner for girls is Mesa View 6th grader Chloe Cheng.
Judges had their work cut out for them, but ultimately announced that returning champion, Mesa View 7th grader Matthew Quach, and Mesa View 6th grader Chloe Cheng took top honors in the third annual Oratorical Contest, hosted by the Optimist Club and OVSD. Both students now prepare for the Zone Level competition, chaired by Optimist Chair Dianne McQuaid, to be held on April 3 at 7 p.m. in OVSD.
“Both Matthew and Chloe did an incredible job of communicating their messages,” said OVSD Board President Gina Clayton-Tarvin. “In fact, each of the 16 students demonstrated an impressive level of maturity and thoughtfulness.”
Winners of the 2nd and 3rd place medals are: (girls) 2nd place, Katie Nehrir of Mesa View, and 3rd place, Aneka Edwards of Marine View; (boys) 2nd place, Cooper Livingston of Marine View, and 3rd place Brian Chau of Vista View.
