Recently a former Marina High School student contacted the Huntington Beach Police Department and filed a sexual assault report. Victim Jane Doe, who was 17 years old at the time of the incident, reported that a United States Marine Corp recruiter and volunteer at Marina High School had sexually assaulted her prior to the end of the school year.
Victim Doe met the suspect during this past track season when he volunteered with the track and field team. Doe developed a coach/athlete relationship with him, and the suspect allegedly sexually assaulted the victim during an off-campus training run. Once the victim reported the crime, detectives from the HBPD Crimes Against Persons Sexual Assault Unit immediately initiated and actively investigated the case.
The 28-year-old suspect was identified as Gonzalo Castro of San Clemente. Castro is an active duty United States Marine Corp Sergeant and recruiter based out of the Costa Mesa recruiting office. Castro served as a USMC recruiter at Marina High School and at Ocean View High School as well. Once the Huntington Beach Unified High School District was notified, they fully cooperated in the investigation.
Castro was arrested on 07-26-17 without incident, and he later posted bond. His next court date is 09-26-17. No further details will be released at this time.
