The public is invited to come to St. Irenaeus Health Ministry’s Workshop on Monday, October 23, 2017 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at St. Irenaeus Parish Hall to meet guest speaker, Dr. Gail C. Farmer and learn about “Creating a Culture of Health: Successful Aging.” Dr. Farmer has a Ph. D. in Public Health in Epidemiology from UCLA and is a tenured professor and research scientist in the Department of Health Sciences at CSULB. Dr. Farmer is an active 73-year-old who has vision problems and who is wheel-chair bound. However, she has not allowed her physical disabilities to prevent her from being an academic scholar, a mentor for students at CSULB, and a volunteer in her local parish community. She is an example of successful “Aging in Community” by keeping active and living in her own home with the help of caregivers and friends.
As a parishioner of St. Irenaeus Parish in Cypress for 54 years, Dr. Farmer has been an assistant in the RCIA catechetical program and a volunteer religion teacher who prepared children to receive the sacraments of the Catholic church. She also participated in faith-sharing groups. She has a strong faith and trust in God and credits God for helping her overcome her physical challenges. She believes that it is necessary to have a purpose-driven life with God at the center.
Come and be inspired by Dr. Farmer as she explains how her faith in God, her active lifestyle, and her community relationships have influenced her joy of living and quality of life!
This is a free workshop sponsored by St. Irenaeus Health Ministry and refreshments will be provided. Reservations are not required. For more information, contact Rosemany Lewallen at 562-4003724.
