Los Alamitos Police Department Captain Sean Connolly was on scene with the STAR Team. (The intersection is in Los Alamitos, although the City of Cypress is immediately to the east.)
He stated that all four pedestrians and the driver of the vehicle were transported to local hospitals for evaluation. Captain Connolly emphasized that because of the serious nature of the incident, the investigation needed to be rigorous. That will take time. Drivers should find alternate routes.
All the businesses around the intersection remained open, although the gas station and the bank on the south side of Ball Rd. could not be reached by car. Traffic northbound on Bloomfield was being diverted onto eastbound Larwin, to Denni St. to continue north. Traffic westbound on Ball Road was being diverted onto Via Largo. Many cars were cutting through the shopping center parking lot.
