We thought bad karma in the restaurant next door to Orange County Breeze World Headquarters had been thoroughly driven out when the building that had housed Train Wreck Pizza and Shakey’s Pizza was torn down to a single wall and rebuilt to house… Spin Neapolitan Pizza.
All the tenants in our building put up with a lot of noise and bother during construction.
The annoyance turned out to be worth it — Spin was great!
We were not happy when Spin closed, and with no word from the corporate owner, Hofman Hospitality Group. Craig Hofman, son of the founder, runs Hofman Hospitality, which also owns Hof’s Hut and Lucille’s.
Renovation of that building must have cost an enormous amount of money…
…but then more construction and renovation foretold of another business. The second renovation brought Mighty Kitchen to Los Alamitos Blvd.
Yay! As one of our staff members said, “The best onion rings in the world!”
So we were shocked to learn from a Los Alamitos City staff member that Mighty Kitchen had closed. (We were also a bit embarrassed that we hadn’t noticed ourselves.)
We learned about the closure at the Los Alamitos Chamber of Commerce networking breakfast on Jan. 5 at Griffins Grill. As soon as the meeting concluded, we returned to Orange County Breeze World Headquarters to confirm the tragic news ourselves.
Alas, all too true.
If we were of a suspicious cast of mind, we might suspect Mr. Hofman of using the location to test new restaurant concepts, serving up great food for a year or eighteen months before closing up shop.
We will keep a gimlet eye on the space and report any further activity.
And our staff will miss those onion rings.
