In an effort to enhance consumer protection and give residents tools to protect themselves against scammers, Senator Janet Nguyen and District Attorney Tony Rackauckas hosted a Consumer Protection Workshop titled “Protect Yourself Against Fraud.” The workshop, held at Leisure World in Seal Beach on Thursday, May 3rd, welcomed dozens of residents who gathered to learn how to recognize and report fraud.
“Scammers continuously devise new and sophisticated ways to steal critical information and money from unsuspecting residents. The only way to combat these shameless individuals is to stay informed of their new tactics and methods,” said Senator Janet Nguyen. “I am proud to have partnered with District Attorney Tony Rackauckas to provide the residents with important information and tools that they can use to protect them and their pocketbooks.”
The topics covered in the Consumer Protection Workshop included but were not be limited to phishing, phone, mail and charity scams. In addition to providing residents with insight and recommendations, workshop attendees received information and resources on where to report these types of fraud.
“These criminals not only steal money, but destroy the security and dreams of their victims as crooks target seniors who are often trusting and have saved their money. While the Orange County District Attorney’s Office will continue to aggressively prosecute these fraudsters, prevention is key. Thank you Senator Nguyen for helping to arm seniors with this valuable information,” said Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas.
