On Saturday, April 21st, Soroptimist International of Cypress held the second annual Dream It Be It Conference in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Cypress (BGCC). Dream It Be It is designed to help girls in the secondary school system obtain skills to overcome obstacles, create attainable goals and think about their futures.
28 girls enjoyed breakfast and lunch in the BGCC Main Clubhouse, with a day of topics ranging from SMART goals, to moving forward after setbacks, to self-care and nurturing oneself while defining your dreams. Prizes and give-a-ways concluded the well-received event with a lot of warm.
A special thank you goes out to Chipotle for providing lunch, Cypress Police Community Liaison, Julie Marquez and Officer, Deanna Hartman for assisting with the event, and all mentoring guests and speakers. Field Representative from Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva, Claudia Peña told her story as the Keynote Speaker. Having faced her own challenges in her teen years, she was able to give the girls first hand testimony that dreams can become goals, and goals can be reached. And a big thank you to Soroptimist International of Cypress for helping make this event possible.
“As our second presentation of this program it was a joy collaborating with the staff at the Boys & Girls Club. The turnout has us excited to see what we can create for our community in the future.”
– Valerie Peters Wagner, Soroptimist Member
