It’s a local story that went national: John Chhan and his wife Stella have operated Donut City on Pacific Coast Hwy. in Seal Beach for almost 30 years. Unfortunately, Stella suffered a stroke not too long ago and has been in recovery. John rushes to be with her every day after he sells his daily supply of doughnuts.
The community rallied around the Chhans, even offering to set up a GoFundMe account to raise money. John politely declined, so everyone did the next-best thing: buying out all the doughnuts early so John can go be with his wife that much sooner.
Reported on by the Orange County Register on Oct. 30, this heartwarming story has since made national news. But I wasn’t expecting to see it pop up in a recent installment on the YouTube channel of Donut Operator, who mostly covers police-related incidents across the country.
Donut Operator (along with his glorious mustache) generally offers a humorous take on law enforcement, finding highlights online for incidents from the odd and the absurd to the “Florida Man was at it again.” He also breaks down more serious police incidents (particularly officer-involved shootings). Generally, his channel is a ton of fun to watch.
So imagine my surprise and joy when a YouTube content creator I enjoy gave a shout-out to Seal Beach and this story of support for a long-standing member of the community?
Watch the video below.
The best bit? Donut Operator actually reached out and gave money to the Seal Beach Police Department so they could buy a bunch of doughnuts from Donut City.
Thank you, Donut Operator!
