Members of the community are invited to do their Christmas shopping at the 19th Annual OCC Mudslingers Holiday Ceramics Sale on Friday, Dec. 7 and Saturday, Dec. 8.
The sale will run from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on both days, and will be located in the College’s Art Center, room 113. Parking for the event is available in Lot D, on Merrimac Way.
Shoppers will find hundreds of unique items at the event, ranging from functional to sculptural and decorative objects.
The OCC Mudslingers Holiday Ceramics Sale has been an exclusive and well-run event since 1999 when then Mudslingers became the official name for the ceramics club on campus. However, students have sold their ceramic work at OCC for more than 40 years.
“Starting this past summer, the OCC Ceramic students have been preparing work exclusively for this event,” says ceramics instructor Kevin Myers. “Sculptural, decorative and utilitarian objects of all shapes and sizes that range in price from a modest $10 up to $150 for the more serious collector. The students’ wholesome, conceptual and honest approach to ceramics is evident through their great sense of design and craftsmanship.”
Eighty-five percent of the proceeds from the sale go to the student and 15 percent goes to the Mudslingers Clay Club. These funds enable the ceramics program to purchase equipment that is necessary to maintain a high degree of studio integrity. “Within the last two years a flat screen was purchased with some of the proceeds allowing for powerpoint presentations to take place in the ceramics studio,” says Myers.
