I-405 Improvement Project Construction Alert: Week of Jan. 21

Milan Street

What: Crews will demolish the existing I-405 sound wall and sidewalk adjacent to Milan Street.

A temporary noise barrier will be installed while the new sound wall is under construction. The new sound wall will be approximately 15 feet high on the Milan Street side of the wall.

A new sidewalk also will be constructed.

Please be advised that this work may be loud.

Where: Milan Street, between approximately Stratford Avenue and 200 feet south of Lowell Circle
How: Temporary concrete barriers, also known as k-rail, will be placed along the curb on the north side of Milan Street to establish a work area. Parking will be restricted on that side of Milan Street, and the sidewalk will be closed. The sidewalk on the south side of Milan Street will remain open.
When: Monday, Jan. 21: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Place k-rail along the curb line on the north side of Milan Street between Stratford Avenue and Lowell Circle.
Monday, Jan. 21: Close sidewalk on east side of Milan Street.
As early as Tuesday, Jan. 22: 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, demolition of the sound wall and sidewalk; construction of the new sound wall and sidewalk.
Some work may be done at night, and construction may take up to four months to complete.

Note: Dates and times may change due to unforeseen operational factors or inclement weather.

Fairview Road

What: Removal of center median
Where: Fairview Road will be reduced to two lanes in each direction between Augusta Street and the northbound I-405 ramps. The lane closures will be set and removed at the beginning and end of each shift. The left-turn lanes from Fairview Road onto southbound and northbound I-405 will remain open. The left-turn lanes from northbound Fairview Road onto Belfast Avenue and McCormack Lane will also remain open.
When: 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, through Friday, Jan. 25.
Why: Median removal is being done in advance of the Fairview Road traffic shift, which is scheduled for early February. The traffic shift will establish a work zone for partial demolition of the bridge.

Bolsa Chica Road

What: Drainage channel removal and installation of pipe to replace the channel.
Where: Southbound Bolsa Chica Road will be reduced to one lane between the southbound I-405 off-ramp and Old Bolsa Chica Road. The southbound I-405 off-ramp to southbound Bolsa Chica Road will be closed.
When: 10 p.m.- 6 a.m. on weeknights Monday, Jan. 21, through Friday, Feb. 1.

What: Settlement fill construction
Where: Adjacent to the Bolsa Chica Road bridge, on the northbound and southbound sides of I-405.
When: 7 a.m.- 4 p.m. on weekdays Monday, Jan. 21, through Friday, Feb.1.
Why: These large piles of dirt will remain in place for several months to compact the soil beneath them for future bridge support structures.

Westminster Boulevard

What: Removal of center median
Where: Eastbound Westminster Boulevard will be reduced to one lane between the southbound I-405 on-ramp and Willow Lane. The merge lanes exiting the southbound I-405 off-ramp onto Westminster Boulevard will be maintained. Westbound Westminster Boulevard will reduced to two lanes between the northbound I-405 on-ramp and Springdale Street. The left-turn lanes onto the northbound and southbound I-405 on-ramps will be closed. Motorists will be able to access the ramps by making a U-turn at Willow Lane or Springdale Street.
When: 7 a.m.- 4 p.m. on weekdays Monday, Jan. 28, through Friday, Feb. 1. The closures will remain in place for the duration of this activity.

Goldenwest Street

What: Daytime pile installation
Where: Adjacent to Goldenwest Street, on the northbound and southbound sides of I-405.
When: 6:30 a.m.- 4 p.m. on weekdays beginning as early as Monday, Feb. 4.
Why: Pile installation is necessary to construct the foundation of the new Goldenwest Street bridge.

McFadden Avenue

What: Daytime pile installation
Where: Adjacent to McFadden Avenue, on the northbound and southbound sides of I-405.
When: Ongoing, 7 a.m.- 4 p.m. on weekdays
Why: Pile installation is necessary to construct the foundation of the new McFadden Avenue bridge.
