On Thursday, January 31st from 6:00pm – 7:30pm, the Boys & Girls Club of Cypress partnered with the Cypress Council PTA to host a Family Wellness Night at Clara J. King Elementary School. Families from all schools in the Cypress School District attended the event. These families enjoyed a free dinner and free entry into the night’s drawing for a chance to win special prizes.
At the event, families were able to visit resource tables from Orange County Asian and Pacific Islander Community Alliance (OCAPICA) and North Orange Continuing Education (NOCE). Educational breakout sessions for parents were offered by Western Youth Services. The sessions featured topics like Healthy Coping Strategies where parents learned strategies for stress management, and Positive Parenting Principles which featured ways to develop assets their children. While parents were participating in these breakout sessions, youth attendees participated in Fitness Bingo for prizes, led by volunteers from Planet Fitness Cerritos. All youth enjoyed staying active and learning new exercises that they can do in the future to stay healthy.
Family Wellness Night was hosted as part of the Boys & Girls Club of Cypress’s new Community Connections program. The goal of the Community Connections program is to help Club families thrive even when in the middle of life’s challenges. Mari Gomez, our Community Outreach Coordinator, connects Club members and families to additional Club services and community resources when needed. Additionally, through this program we will be working to build a larger Club volunteer program.
