Opening Statements in the trial of People v. Woods began Thursday, February 21, 2019. Jon M. Woods, 57, Cypress, a workers’ compensation applicant attorney with an office in Signal Hill, is charged in a 37-count Information with conspiring to violate, and with violating, various insurance fraud statutes. Woods is accused of providing compensation to Carlos Arguello in exchange for clients as part of an illegal referral scheme. Woods is also accused of accepting compensation in exchange for his referral of business to USA Photocopy, Inc. and Professional Documents Management, Inc. Seventeen different workers’ compensation insurance providers are listed victims in the case. Woods was one of 16 defendants charged as part of a large investigation conducted by OCDA Bureau of Investigation. If convicted, Woods will face a maximum sentence of 43 years and 4 months in prison.

Deputy District Attorneys Noor Hasan and Maelesa Street are prosecuting this case.
