Long Beach man held in shooting murder on East Artesia Boulevard

On February 24, 2019, at approximately 12:37 a.m., Officers were dispatched to a shots call at an apartment complex in the 1500 block of East Artesia Boulevard.

Officers arrived and located the victim inside an apartment with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper torso.

Officers performed lifesaving measures until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and determined the victim deceased at the scene. The victim is only being identified as a 33 -year old resident of Long Beach pending notification of next of kin.

Patrol officers located the suspect shortly after arriving on scene. 23-year old Zaire El of Long Beach, was taken into custody for murder, and an outstanding traffic warrant. El was booked into the Long Beach City Jail and is being held on $2,000,619 bail.

The preliminary investigation suggests the victim and suspect were cohabitants in the apartment. A firearm was recovered by detectives. A motive for the shooting is unknown and the investigation remains ongoing.
