Orange Coast College’s Fashion department is bringing back its on-campus pop-up retail shop, The Box — located in a shipping container between Literature and Languages and the Math, Business and Computing Center – on March 11–15. The first brand featured in The Box this semester is Cleobella, a Boho brand featuring handmade clothing and accessories sourced in Bali.
The Box will return the following week, March 18–21 with the brand Alternative Retail, which will be selling clothing and accessories from action sports brands at blowout prices.
Many students from OCC’s Fashion department were involved in the development of The Box, which first opened one year ago; everything from designing the logo to booking local brands was undertaken by fashion students as part of a laboratory type class.
The Box project is part of a Statewide grant titled “Doing What Matters for Jobs and the Economy” that challenges community colleges to come up with innovative ways to give students hands-on, real world learning experiences.
Each brand is given free rein over the empty shipping container and brings in their own look with unique furniture and artwork.
Orange Coast College, founded in 1947, is one of the nation’s top transfer schools. With a student population of 25,000, OCC provides exemplary programs leading to Associate degrees and 130 career programs. The college’s 164-acre campus is located in the heart of Costa Mesa.
