Buena Park Youth Theatre auditions for “I’m All Shook Up” on March 23 and 24

This crowd-pleasing musical is inspired by and featuring the songs of Elvis Presley. It’s 1955, and into a square little town in a square little state rides a guitar-playing young man who changes everything and everyone he meets in this hip-swiveling, lip-curling musical fantasy that’ll have you jumpin’ out of your blue suede shoes with such classics as “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Jailhouse Rock,” and “Don’t Be Cruel.”

Participants are required to prepare a song in their range (no pop music). An accompanist will be provided for those with sheet music, or you may bring a karaoke-style CD without a vocal track. A short dance routine will be taught on the day of auditions, so appropriate attire and footwear are strongly encouraged. A dance routine will be taught one time only per audition session; please be on time. Missing the dance auditions will greatly affect casting decisions.

Founded in 1981 by former elementary school teacher Ruth Walp, Buena Park Youth Theatre was created due to public school budgetary cutbacks in the arts. Since then, the program has produced fully staged Broadway musicals with thousands of youth actors. The musicals continue to receive outstanding critical acclaim and attract audiences of all ages.
