Collaborative “Duet” paintings on display at John Wayne Airport

Laguna Beach artists Stephanie Cunningham and Betty Haight create two individually unique paintings then blend them together to produce one seamless piece of collaborative “Duet” artwork featuring soulful, moody landscapes and figurative imagery that pulls viewers into a storyline of their art. An exhibit of their work is on display in the John Wayne Airport Community Focus Space from March 20 – April 18, 2019.

“Travelers at John Wayne Airport are sure to enjoy the creative artwork of the Cunningham/Haight team’s ‘Duet’ paintings that bring two individual pieces together to create one work of art with its own unique story,” said Orange County Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Lisa Bartlett. “Next time you are traveling through, take a moment to view and admire their exhibit throughout the Airport.”

Cunningham and Haight met in 1998 while attending a local art workshop and developed a strong friendship upon realizing they shared similar views about art and its creative process. In 2008, they began their series of “Duets,” multi-media format, collage oil paintings depicting interaction between figures and their environment. Each finished painting includes a “story tag” explaining the narrative of their artwork and is mounted with a sculptural frame fashioned from found wood and objects.

Their artwork has been featured yearly in the Laguna Beach Festival of Arts and can be seen in movies such as The Proposal, The Last Song, The Guilt Trip and displayed on the sets of several television shows including The Young and the Restless.

Cunningham/Haight’s artwork may be viewed on the Departure (upper) Level near security screening areas in Terminals A, B and C, and on the Arrival (lower) Level adjacent to Baggage Carousels 1 and 4. To learn more, visit their website at http://cunninghamhaight.com/.
