I-405 Improvement Project construction alert: Week of March 25, 2019

Construction Activities

Slater Avenue

Falsework construction, which includes installing wooden and steel beams to support the reconstruction of the new Slater Avenue bridge.

This will be adjacent to Slater Avenue, on the northbound (NB) side of I-405. NB I-405 will be fully closed between Brookhurst Street and Magnolia Street.

Additional Closures

  • NB I-405 loop on-ramp from NB Brookhurst Street
  • NB I-405 on-ramp from SB Brookhurst Street

Detours will be in place, and signs will be posted to guide motorists around the closures. Motorists should expect delays and use alternate routes if possible.

This will take place as early as 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday, March 25 to Friday, March 29

Detours:
NB I-405 Detour: NB Brookhurst Street → WB Warner Avenue → NB I-405

SB Brookhurst Street On-Ramp Detour: SB Brookhurst Street → WB Talbert Avenue → NB Magnolia Street → NB I-405

Bolsa Chica Road

Bolsa Chica Road will be under construction for settlement fill construction. This will be adjacent to the Bolsa Chica Road bridge, on the SB side of I-405.

Daytime: As early as 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., ongoing, through Friday, March 29 on weekdays
Nighttime: As early as 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. ongoing, through Friday, March 29 on weekdays

These large piles of dirt will remain in place for up to three months to compact the soil beneath them for future bridge support structures.

Bridge construction activities will take place on NB Bolsa Chica Road will be reduced to one lane intermittently between Duncannon Avenue and Garden Grove Boulevard.

As early as 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., ongoing, on weekdays.

Magnolia Street

There will be bridge construction activities on Magnolia Street. NB Magnolia Street will be reduced to one lane intermittently between the Boomers driveway and Heil Avenue.

As early as 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., ongoing, on weekdays.

 

Utility Work

Heil Avenue

Underground utility work will take place on Heil Avenue. Heil Avenue will be fully closed between Ross Lane and Savoy Circle.

As early as 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, March 25 to Friday, March 29, on weekdays

The closure will be picked up after each daily shift, at approximately 4 p.m.

Detour

Heil Avenue → Ross Lane → Royal Drive/Landau Lane

 

Pile Installation Activities

Fairview Road

Nighttime pile installation for temporary shoring, adjacent to Fairview Road, on the NB and SB sides of I-405.

As early as 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., Tuesday, March 19 through Friday, March 29 on weekdays

A portion of this work may require ramp closures, which can only be done at night. There will also be intermittent lane reductions on Fairview Road over I-405.

Pile installation is necessary to construct the foundation of the new Fairview Road bridge.

Bolsa Chica Road

Nighttime and daytime pile installation. Crews will be working near the center median columns on the freeway, behind lane closures.

Daytime: As early as 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. ongoing, through Friday, April 5, Monday through Saturday
Nighttime: As early as 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. ongoing, through Friday, April 5, Monday through Saturday

A portion of this work may require lane closures, which can only be done at night.

Pile installation is necessary to construct the foundation of the new Bolsa Chica Road bridge.

Goldenwest Street

Daytime pile installation adjacent to Goldenwest Street, on the northbound and southbound sides of I-405. Crews will also be working near the center median columns on the freeway, behind lane closures.

7 a.m. – 4 p.m. ongoing, through late April on weekdays and Saturdays

Pile installation is necessary to construct the foundation of the new Goldenwest Street bridge.

McFadden Avenue

Daytime pile installation adjacent to McFadden Avenue, on the SB side of I-405.

Ongoing, 7 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday – Sunday

Pile installation is necessary to construct the foundation of the new McFadden Avenue bridge.

 

Wall Construction Activities

Milan Street

Crews will begin working on the foundation for the new wall on Milan Street, between approximately Stratford Avenue and 200 feet south of Lowell Circle.

Ongoing, 7 a.m. – 4 p.m., on weekdays.
