The Second Annual BGCC Teen Center Open was held on Sunday, March 17, 2018 at the beautiful Black Gold Golf Club in Yorba Linda. Event Chairs Charles Williams and Jon Peat were joined by 108 golfers on a beautiful St. Patrick’s Day morning.

The day started with a delicious breakfast provided by Amanda Huizar and Karen Williams while golfers registered and warmed up on the driving range. The carts rolled out on the course at 8:00AM for the shotgun start. Golfers enjoyed a host of snacks, beverages and games along the course. Vinny “the Pasta Man” Ciurluini helped out the golfers on Hole 4 throughout the day. He demonstrated his world-champion long drive abilities and raised nearly $1,000 for the Teen Center. Several carts of leprechaun-attired volunteers toured the course throughout the tournament ensuring that all golfers were having a great time.

After the tournament, the hungry golfers enjoyed a delicious pasta-buffet luncheon which included more than 100 raffle and auction items donated by local businesses and community members. Papa Wheelie Bicycles in Garden Grove donated an Electric bicycle and a Cruiser bicycle. Awards were presented to the Winning Golf Team of Beauty and the Beasts (Amelia DeLazzer, David Ek, Pete Grant, Bob Sittman) and the Most Honest Team of Van Maanen and Crew (Michael Morrison Sr., Sean Jenkins, Jim Nordeman, Tanner Van Maanen, and Mike Van Maanen). The crowd also enjoyed the Last Man Standing Game.

The generous support of the following sponsors was recognized: Presenting Sponsor Los Alamitos Race Course; Eagle Sponsors Doug Bailey, RBC Wealth Management and Charles & Karen Williams; Birdie Sponsors Golden State Water Company, Peter Grant-Cypress City Manager, Greg Maingot-Maingot Electric, Anthony and Susan Taylor and Team Papajohn, Jon and Bonnie Peat, and RiteCare Childhood Language Centers of California a program of the California Scottish Rite Foundation
Golfers and sponsors raised over $45,000 to help pay for the construction of the Boys & Girls Club of Cypress Teen Center. Construction began in September and was completed last week. Furnishings are arriving this week. The new Teen Center will provide an additional 1,600 square feet to the Main Clubhouse building, allowing more teens to join. The teens are thrilled with their new space. How can we tell? 15 additional teens registered in the last ten days.
