For one night only, comedy showroom The Rec Room and family-friendly challenge arena Glowzone Huntington Beach are partnering with local nonprofit OC Autism for World Autism Awareness Month on Friday, April 19. The evening aims to raise awareness and funds for the nonprofit.
“We are honored to partner with OC Autism,” said Jason Hughes, owner of Glowzone Huntington Beach. “One in 59 children are affected with autism. As a facility that is truly family-friendly and a place where families can come together to have fun, we are proud to be giving back to a cause that affects so many families in our community.”
Glowzone, which is adjacent to The Rec Room, will kick-off the partnership by transforming their entire facility into a sensory sensitive zone from 4 to 7 p.m. for families and individuals on the spectrum. Contrary to its normal glow-in-the-dark atmosphere, Glowzone will have its normal indoor lights on and normal sounds at a minimal level, while also offering its attractions that are suitable for those with autism.
After enjoying Glowzone’s attractions, those 21 and over can enjoy The Rec Room’s “Light It Up Blue” Comedy Show hosted by Rosie Tran to benefit OC Autism. Comics on the spectrum, including Keith Reza (who has opened for Norm MacDonald, Jay Mohr and Jeremy Hotz), Joshua Meyrowitz, Maggie Eismeir and Matt McClowry will all take the stage. Special guest William Hung, former contestant on American Idol and acclaimed motivational speaker will also be part of the show. Doors for Light It Up Blue open at 7 p.m. with the show beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets are $30 each and $100 for VIP, which includes seating within the first two rows.
OC Autism is a nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of children and adults locally and globally on the spectrum through their three pillars: educate, empower and employ.
The evening to benefit OC Autism is part of Glowzone’s newest initiative, Glowzone Gives, where the family-friendly facility partners with nonprofits in the area to give back to the community.
