There’s something for everyone with ten days of events including a series of diverse architectural tours, free educational opportunities, community partner pop-up programs (TBA), and behind the scenes trips into active conservation sites. Endorsed by Mayor Robert Garcia and Arts Council for Long Beach Director Griselda Suarez, among others, Long Beach Architecture Week showcases architectural jewels and landmarks by the sea; promotes preservation, sustainability, and new ideas; and most importantly, gives back to the community. Partial proceeds of all events benefit Long Beach Heritage, a nonprofit organization which advocates and educates about the integral role of architectural heritage and historic places in the city’s unique character and future development.
A special issue of LB Home + Living Magazine will launch in association with LBAW. The Architecture Week Edition of LB Home + Living Magazine celebrates the incredible history, diversity, and future of the architectural environment in our city. The tours, event series, and magazine features praise past achievements and applaud a bright future of a growing city.
LBAW shares expert knowledge from architectural scholars in free education events through strategic partnerships. Long Beach Home + Living is grateful to have Long Beach Heritage, Studio One Eleven, and American Institute of Architects (AIA) Long Beach/South Bay Chapter as public programming partners and the Long Beach Museum of Art, the University Art Museum at Cal State Long Beach, The Aquarium of the Pacific, InspiredLBC, 4th Steet Vine, and Big Red Bus as event collaborators. The organizers are also thankful for community collaborators including: John Thomas, prominent Art Deco preservation consultant; Joe Harding, East Village Association president; architects Joe Coriaty, FAIA managing partner at Fred Fisher & Partners and Kelly Sutherlin McLeod, FAIA Principal KSM Architecture, Inc.; and from Studio One Eleven, Michael Bohn, AIA, Senior Principal / Design Director and project manager Ryan Caldera. Other collaborators include Dr. Norbert Schurer, Professor of English at Cal State Long Beach; design historian Tom Treadway, also from Cal State Long Beach; Justin Potier, Realtor and Area Vice President for Vylla Homes, and more.
