Orange Coast College seeks experienced cheer, dance athletes for competitive team

Orange Coast College will hold tryouts for its national-award winning Cheer and Dance teams on Saturday, May 11 from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Fitness Center Gym.

Registration for cheer tryouts will begin at 8:30 a.m. with auditions scheduled for 9 a.m. The team is seeking cheerleaders with experience in stunting and tumbling.

Registration for dance tryouts will begin at 11:30 a.m. with auditions set to begin at noon. The team is looking for dancers with technical skills and competition experience.

The cheer and dance teams at Coast are highly competitive, with both teams taking home dozens of national titles since the 1990s from the Universal Dance Association (UDA), United Spirit Association (USA) and the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA). In February of this year, OCC’s dance team won first place in both the Pom and Jazz divisions of the USA Collegiate Championships for the second year in a row.

Incoming students who are not yet 18 years old must have a parent or guardian present to sign all required forms in order to take part in Saturday’s auditions. For more information, contact Coach Mike Reynolds at [email protected] or at (714) 642-5382.
